“I first met Akkodis at a job fair at the Czech Technical University, where I was studying Design in the Faculty of Architecture. I started as an intern while still studying, and after university I switched to a full-time job. My choice was the construction department, where I started as an industrial designer.

Combining work and studies is not always easy, but at Akkodis I was able to set my working hours as flexibly as possible. Even while working on my diploma or during exams, it was no problem to take a complete day off and concentrate only on school. That is something that you will really appreciate as a student.
What excited me the most was my business trip lasting several months to Mexico, where we have one of our offices. I love traveling and meeting new people and countries, so I jumped at the opportunity immediately. It was a great experience not only from a professional but also a personal perspective, and I think I gained a unique experience. I hope it wasn't my last trip.

I have to say that I really enjoy working at Akkodis. It’s great to be able to learn from the best in the field every day, get inspired, but also implement my own ideas and think about functional solutions. And thanks to flexible working hours, I can fully devote myself to all my hobbies, mainly sports, dancing and traveling.”
I was “thrown in at the deep end” right from the start of my work at Akkodis. After a few initial tasks I was given the job of completing a large software project that the rest of the team didn’t have the capacity for. About a month later I went to Germany to present the project, where I faced a meeting full of Germans, who wanted to properly test me.

I studied numerical mathematics at school, I started working as a programmer. Especially at the beginning, it meant a lot of self-study and new topics. At the same time, I had already tried project management and customer communication in English and German during my studies. In the following years, I went from an intern to a Junior Engineer to my current position as Lead Engineer.
Among my greatest achievements in the company are:
- Co-design and creation of software that allows our customer to plan and simulate the development and sales of their products
- Implementation of parallelization into a large software that solves differential equations
- Design and creation of software to simulate heat flow in engines

I like to develop my skills and deepen my programming knowledge. Given my current position, I also want to focus on the human side, i.e. how to lead a team, how to properly do a Code Review, etc.
I got the impression during the interview that the requirements for candidates were considerable. This impression lasted even after I started working. I learned to use a new CAD system in German, absorbed the methodologies and procedures for building 3D models. I started working on customer assignments quite early on, so I also had to work under deadline pressure. In short, the beginning was not easy.

What I consider the greatest success is my reputation with customers. And there is no better reward than when, after starting a new project, someone from the client’s company finds out that they will be working with me and says: “Is Jakub in charge? So we’re halfway there.”
I consider the team we have in the department to be one of the best benefits. The make-up of the team is diverse, both in terms of age and hobbies. The mood in the team is friendly. I think everyone here will find a group of people with whom they have a lot to talk about and who they can meet with outside the office.

I am currently leading a large project with 7 to 10 people working on it. I can see that everything is good from a technical point of view, but when it comes to working with people, I definitely have room for improvement. With such a large number of people, you need to be able to communicate well so that everyone understands the information correctly, motivate and give even negative feedback so that it does not have a negative impact on the team. So in the future, I would like to focus on these soft skills.
